The Association

The Shaftesbury and District Tourism Association is a voluntary organisation aimed at the promotion of Shaftesbury and surrounding areas to the visitor. The Association began nearly 50 years ago as a small group helping to advertise the small accommodation providers (principally the Bed and Breakfast accommodation) in Shaftesbury and the surrounding area.

Today the Association still has as it’s roots in Bed and Breakfast accommodation providers, but has grown to include Self-Catering, Camp Sites and members from other groups and industries (such as the restaurants and tourist attractions) interested in the promotion of the area to the tourist.

The Shaftesbury and District Tourism Association produces a number of publications to help the visitor, including Where to Stay, Where to Eat, and ‘Where to Walk’, amongst others.

The Association works with other groups in the town helping with events such as Gold Hill Fair in July and local arts and crafts festivals as well as representing ‘Tourism’ on the Town Council’s Tourism Sub-Committee. We work closely with the Tourist Information Centre and North Dorset District Council through their Tourism Officer.
